Compton, CA – Kendrick Lamar released the artwork for his debut album good kid, m.A.A.d. City which is slated for October 22nd. The cover art is actually an old polaroid that pictures 4 people – 3 men and a young boy sitting around a table with various items scattered on the table top. Everyone in the picture has their eyes blacked out except for the boy, and yes, that would be Kendrick. The other 3 people are his 2 uncles (to the left) and his grandfather (far right). If you look closely you’ll see the uncle holding Kendrick is showing a gang sign and on the table is a 40 ounce beside a baby bottle. Kendrick sat down with Fuse TV recently and shed light on the personal meaning behind the cover art. He explained that the album is more than just music to him, it’s a story about the youth and the people that they call delinquents in his city. Watch the video after the jump to hear more.
In regards to the content of the album, no track listing has been released as of yet, but so far there have been two listening sessions and Complex magazine stated that the album “plays like a proper follow up to his excellent Section.80.”. As well, we do know for certain there are a few major collaborations on the album. During K. Dot’s most recent visit to Toronto on September 19th, Drake hit the stage and told the crowd that him and Kendrick have a song on the album titled “Poetic Justice.” Also, Lady Gaga announced on Twitter in August that a record she was working on became a collaboration with Kendrick for his album called “Party Nauseous”. Looks like it’s going to be an interesting project!
